Kiwanis of Lafayette thanks Wayne Corne, architect, for speaking to us today!
Mr. Corne is a member of the Corne-Lemaire Group, a Lafayette architectural firm. He spoke to us today about his most recent project, the new construction of St. Pius X Catholic Church on Kaliste Saloom Road. Corne-Lemaire is the architectural firm hired for the project and they are working with liturgical design consultant Michael Carrigan of Sacred Spaces and general contractor JB Mouton to complete construction by the fall of 2017.
He shared with us several of his photos depicting the progress of construction and discussed his inspiration for the design of the church. Mr. Corne said that the design elements were influenced by French, Italian and Spanish architecture but the overall design is meant to reflect the Acadiana Region.
The church is a 31,141 square-foot structure with seating plans for 950, nearly doubling the original capacity of the church. It features 80 foot high vaulted ceilings, a small adoration chapel within the bell tower, and two chapels on either side of the knave devoted to Mary and St. Joseph.
Thanks again to Wayne Corne for visiting with us today!
