Thanks to Dodson Elementary School for sending us a copy of their Press Release highlighting the results of their school spelling bee - not only did their 2 spelling bee winners compete in our bee, but the other winners, the spelling bee chairman and the school principal also showed up at our bee to give their support. Saturday, March 16th the Kiwanis Clubs of Acadiana and Lafayette sponsored the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in Lafayette at the South Louisiana Community College. All six of Dodson’s Finalists, Mrs. Angela Louviere, Principal, and Mrs. Alice Burke, Spelling Bee Chairman, attended to support our two First Place winners. Cassidy Boudreaux, daughter of Sean and Bridgette Boudreaux, represented Dodson in the Third and Fourth Grade Division. Jacky Ho was the Second Place winner, and Devin Landry the Third Place winner. Nanci Pellerin, daughter of Brandon Pellerin and Virginia Bouton,represented Dodson in the Fourth and Fifth Grade Division. Dorien Mitchell was the Second Place winner, and Abigail Judice the Third Place winner.
Sixty students from eight Parishes were invited by Kiwanis to participate in the Bee. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to change the world one child and one community at a time. Funds raised from the Spelling Bee help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more.
