Our current project: Tackling Childhood Obesity

Fresh off the heels of our club’s completion of Parc Independence (Lafayette’s first handicapable, adaptive and interactive playground specifically designed for children with physical & developmental disabilities), we are off to another great start – the renovation of Clark Field.  Our Board decided to embark on another community-changing project, and the idea of our current project was born.

About the same time that we decided to build this new facility with Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG), the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation announced a statewide grant to address childhood obesity.  So our Foundation teamed up with many other local nonprofits, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and the Lafayette Parish School System to put together a plan to address this very serious issue.  And we are pleased to say that our group was recently selected as a recipient of a $1,000,000 grant to address this serious problem that continues to get worse in America, especially in Louisiana.
