Operation Magi – A Lafayette Kiwanis Tradition of Giving

Today, more than 30 Kiwanians, along with spouses, children and grand children, arrived at the Pinhook Walmart early this moring to participate in our annual Christmas Project - Operation Magi.  With the assistance of the Lafayette Parish School Board, we identify needy children and take them to Walmart to shop for Christmas presents. The gifts we give are paid from the funds we raise in our Annual Football Jamboree.  It is for many of us a reminder of the meaning of giving during the busy holiday season.

According to Bob Cole, the project's creator, the first Operation Magi was held in 1975 at Cullen's Playland.  Over the next forty years, it has moved from Cullen's, then to Target, and now the Pinhook Walmart.  Kiwanis of Lafayette is proud of our tradition of giving.  We would like to share some photos of this year's event.
