Lafayette Speller headed to National Spelling Bee

The Kiwanis Club of Lafayette and the Kiwanis Club of Acadiana are pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 Kiwanis Regional Spelling Bee, held March 22 at the South Louisiana Community College.  Students from 8 parishes competed in 2 separate spelling bees, and the Grand Champion is Amelia Hebert of Cathedral Carmel School, who wins an expense-paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee during the week of May 25, 2014.

Winners of the 3rd – 5th grade bee are 3rd place (tie): Mason Landreth (Broadmoor Elementary) Gabriel Juarez (St. Cecelia), 2nd place: Ethan Laviolette (Cathedral Carmel), 1st place: Kylon Segura (Dodson St. Elementary)

Winners of the 6th – 8th grade bee are 3rd place: Hieu Pham (North Lewis Street Elementary), 2nd place: Justin Landry (St. Cecelia) and Grand Champion Ameila Hebert (Cathedral Carmel)
