Dr. Pearson Cross- Guest Speaker – 11/1/16

Kiwanis of Lafayette thanks Dr. Pearson Cross, Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, for speaking to us today.

Dr. Cross is a recognized expert and frequent commentator on state and local politics in Louisiana. He also hosts "Bayou to the Beltway" which is broadcast on KRVS 88.7 FM on Wednesdays at 12:30 pm and again on Saturdays at 5:30 pm. In this weekly broadcast, Dr. Cross interviews local government officials and news-makers.

With the presidential election only a week away, we were very fortunate to have Dr. Cross provide an analysis of the current electorate and the trends in early voting. Louisiana, as in most other states has seen an increase in early voting given the high interest in this election.

The discussion was lively and Dr. Cross answered many questions from the Club. Dr. Cross also provided an analysis of the seemingly forgotten local races for U.S. Senate and the Third Congressional District.

Dr. Cross' presentation is directly in line with the third object of Kiwanis, which is "To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship."
