Dr. Michael Martin – Guest Speaker – 6/14/16

Kiwanis of Lafayette thanks Dr. Michael Martin, Director of the Center for Louisiana Studies at UL for speaking to us today.

Dr. Martin is the third director in the center's history.  The center has been housed in the third floor of UL's Dupre' Library since its inception in 1973.

The Center's mission is to preserve and promote the state's culture and history.  Dr. Martin also discussed the Center's role in operating the UL Press which publishes books from Louisiana authors.

Dr. Martin also discussed the Center's eventual move to the J. Arthur Roy house on the corner of Johnson and University.  However, the Center must raise the funds necessary to renovate that historic property before it can relocate there.

Thank you Dr. Martin for your interesting discussion.
