Kiwanis of Lafayette thanks Carey Bryson for speaking to us today. Carey is a local attorney who specializes in tax law and litigation with the IRS on behalf of taxpayers.
Carey’s discussion focused on the basics of the IRS audit process. He cleared up some misconceptions regarding the manner in which the IRS chooses which returns to audit and also discussed the ways in which the IRS conducts its audit. He differentiated the IRS process from those involving telephone scam artists in that the IRS always initiates its process in writing and never makes immediate demands for payment by phone.
Carey also gave some practical advice such as maintaining tax records (and other records of income) for a period of six years.
Thanks again to Carey Bryson for meeting with us today.
