Bill Oliver – Guest Speaker – 12/29/15

Kiwanis of Lafayette thanks Bill Oliver, District Administrator for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, for speaking to us today about the current status of the proposed I-49 Connector project.

Mr. Oliver outlined the current status of the proposed Lafayette Connector and the next steps.  This project has been nearly thirty years in the making, with alternative routes considered and rejected.

At present, the only route under consideration is the corridor in and along the current Evangeline Thruway.  At least three alternative routes have been previously considered and rejected.

The next steps are to involve the public in reaching a consensus for the design and development of the route. To that end the DOTD will hold more than 45 public meetings next year.

Kiwanis of Lafayette is pleased to have presented both sides of this very important project.  These speakers help us to meet the Fourth Object of Kiwanis which is: "To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship."
