Jason El Koubi – Guest Speaker – 1/10/17

Kiwanis of Lafayette thanks Jason El Koubi, President and CEO of One Acadiana, for speaking to us today.

Mr. El Koubi joined the organization, which is the former Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, in September 2013. Under his leadership, the organization developed and launched the Campaign for One Acadiana, a five year $15 million initiation to enhance economic development in the nine-parish Acadiana Region.

By taking a regional approach, One Acadiana combines the resources of the nine parishes to focus on improved environments for business competition. He shared with us the services that One Acadiana provides to its 1,000 member businesses as well as some of the key issues facing the region in 2017.

The 1-49 Connector project is an emphasis for the organization and he suggested that interested parties learn more at the Connect Lafayette website and Facebook page. He also talked about the challenges in improving our classroom facilities. Currently students across the parish are begin educated in over 450 portable Butler Buildings. So One Acadiana is supportive of efforts to improve our classrooms.

Finally, Mr. El Koubi took questions from our members concerning a wide range of topics, such as local infrastructure improvements, the status of the airport improvement project, and whether and when the downturn in the oilfield will end this year.

Thank you again, Jason El Koubi, for your very interesting discussion.
