Kiwanis of Lafayette thanks David L. Callecod, President of Lafayette General Health System, for speaking to us today.
During his term as president, Mr. Callecod has overseen the growth from a single hospital to a seven hospital system with an additional six clinical affiliate hospitals throughout the Acadiana region. In addition, the system has also entered into a strategic partnership with the New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System to better serve the system’s patients.
Mr. Callecod spoke of current issues facing healthcare both from state and federal government. He also discussed possible outcomes concerning the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, better known as “Obamacare” and what Congress has proposed as alternatives.
Additionally, he spoke about the growing trend toward health care management via smart phone technology. He gave examples of specific diagnostic tools which are currently available for purchase, including: smart thermometers; EKG and pulse oximeter readers; and otoscopes – all of which can be attached to a smart phone, with the results transmitted by app to physicians. He predicted that the use of the smart phone will continue to change the manner in which persons can manage their health. Finally, he answered many of the member’s questions.
Thanks again to David Callecod, for speaking to us today!
